What is the CPF?
The CPF is the tax identification document in Brazil. It is mandatory for any financial operation, real estate purchase, and tax declaration.
CPF Structure:
- First 9 digits: Base number and fiscal region
- 9th digit: Indicates the fiscal region of emission
- Last 2 digits: Check digits (DV)
Validation Algorithm:
- Multiply the 9 digits by weights 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2
- Sum the result and multiply by 10
- Calculate modulo 11: result = (sum * 10) % 11
- If result is 10, use 0 as check digit
- Repeat the process for the second digit with weights 11 to 2
