What is a CLABE?
The CLABE (Standardized Banking Code) is an 18-digit number that uniquely identifies each bank account in Mexico. It is mandatory for electronic transfers and automatic payments (SPEI).
Structure of the CLABE:
- Digits 1-3: Bank code (Example: 002 = Banamex, 014 = Santander)
- Digits 4-6: Branch or office (generally 000 for modern accounts)
- Digits 7-17: Unique account number
- Digit 18: check digit (modulo 10 algorithm)
